The story

From Gaeta to Würzburg: pizza with ham

In 997 the word “pizza” first appears in Gaeta: a tenant must deliver twelve pizzas to the bishop at Christmas and at Easter. Around 1858 Emmanuele Rocco describes the street bakers' pizzas in Naples – some topped with slices of ham. In 1952 Nicolino di Camillo opens Germany's first pizzeria in Würzburg.
